Hi, and thanks for stopping in. I thought you may like to know a bit about what goes on behind the scenes here at BuildFree.org. First of all, this page could be called "about me" instead of "about us". My name is Doyle Dawkins, and I got my first computer in June of 2002 - My wife bought it for me at an auction, complete with Windows 98. Well I played some games, typed some letters, but I really didn't what was all the hoopla was all about. That is, until I stumbled on to building free websites. I felt like I was getting away with stealing, getting my website content (whatever it may be) live on the internet for free, visible for the entire world to see. But I was frustrated by the misinformation and trickery that was going on when it came to educating beginners that wanted a website. I felt I was being taken advantage of by the offers of free websites that turned out to be only free trials, or the free websites that were so limited in their features, that they were basically useless unless you upgrade. I did realize however that building free websites was a great learning experience to teach myself computer skills. So I started documenting the best sites and webmaster tools that I thought were useful and honest. I kept track of the best free web hosts that were really free, and decided to build a complete website about what I had learned. A lot of the content of this site (BuildFree.org) was already on some of my free sites on a free host based in Russia called Boxmail.biz*. At that time Boxmail.biz was the best free host out there - no forced advertising, unlimited photos and pages and a web building interface that made sense to me. Within months, I was getting several hundred hits a day. But in early 2003, Boxmail.biz started having a lot of down time and for days on end, the site would be off-line. I was experiencing my first webmaster headaches. So I bought the domain name BuildFree.org in May of 2003 and compiled all my knowledge and information into this website. Through many upgrades, updates and design changes, BuildFree.org holds true in it's goal to bring a wealth (and sometimes overwhelming amount) of information to beginning website builders.
To sum things up, I am just a regular guy with a regular job, sitting behind the computer in my regular house in rural Indiana. I am living proof that anyone that sets their mind to it, can build and maintain a successful website. And learning to do it all is FREE! for questions and comments, contact me: doyledawkins@yahoo.com *(I no longer recommend Boxmail.biz as they have started to put adult material on all pages) |
